Write the Scriptures
Reading, studying, meditating on and memorising the Word of God are key spiritual disciplines. Writing out parts of the Bible can help us with all of these areas.

Perhaps you are like me. I often write short Bible verses or passages on sticky notes or record cards and put them on my prayer board, in my Bible or in other places around the home. I have enjoyed writing out longer portions of the Bible in the past but wanted to become more consistent with writing scripture to help it sink deeper. I developed the following resources to help me and I want to share them with you.

-
On day one, write out the first scripture one to seven times. The next day, write out the second scripture one to seven times, and so on.
-
Each day, write out all seven of the scriptures.
-
One day a week, write out all or selected Bible references.
Write the Scriptures Together
It can be motivational and special to Write the Scriptures with others. Why not make this part of your next Bible Study or home group?
After a prayer, each person can Write the Scriptures at their own pace. Once everyone has finished or after a predetermined period of time (you decide) each writer can share about the scriptures or their experience of writing scripture.
Tips for Writing Out Scripture
Here are a couple of tips for writing out scripture. Find a quiet space where you can concentrate on reading and writing. You will be less likely to make mistakes which can be frustrating for some of us more than others! Quiet can also allow the Word to sink deeper into your heart as the opportunity to focus and reflect can lead to deeper understanding.
Writing the Scripture is not about creating beautiful calligraphy - unless this is part of your worship. Our normal handwriting is just fine! We may want to produce something visually pleasing and 'perfect' but the primary goal is to grow spiritually through the discipline. So relax and enjoy the journey.
Writing Longer Bible Passages
Do you want to go further with writing the Bible?
As part of memorising Psalm 119, I will write out each stanza by hand to help me meditate on and memorise the Psalm. I have created an attractive Write the Scriptures package to help keep me motivated. By the end, I will have a handwritten record of Psalm 119.
I have also created Write the Scripture packages for shorter books of the New Testament.
Each download packs contains:
-
An overview of the Book or long passage
-
An attractive Write the Scriptures front page to start writing on
-
A matching sheet for subsequent pages - you can print as many sheets as you need to complete your writing
-
A notes page for you to record your reflections during the process
You may Write the Scriptures in any notebook or paper but why not make the paper as pleasant as possible?
